History: This was one of several different uniform styles worn by the Memphis club in the 1940s. The V on the sleeve is for Victory in World War II. #6 on back.
History: After spending most of their history in the Pittsburgh area, the 1940s saw the famed Negro League ballclub play home games in Washington, D.C., at Griffith Park, where they often out-drew the lowly Senators. Led by aging star outfielder Cool Papa Bell (#18), the Grays won back-to-back Negro World Series titles in 1943 and 1945.

Once they joined the Negro American League they focused on baseball and won the NAL title in 1950. The Clowns are best known for three signings: the great women players Toni Stone and Connie Morgan and a raw youngster named Henry Aaron.
